TYPES OF HAIR EXTENSIONS

There are so many different terms: human hair, virgin hair, remy hair, etc etc. How do you know the difference between all these terms?

HOW HAIR EXTENSIONS ARE MADE

Human hair extensions are exactly as the name suggests. They are made entirely from real human hair, collected from a donor. Remy hair means that all the hair cuticles (the outer layer of the hair) are intact and running in the same direction at the time of collection. Because the hair cuticles all point in the same direction and are not mixed up, there are almost no tangles, the extensions have a longer lifespan and they remain soft.

Synthetic hair, on the other hand, is made from various synthetic blended fibers and does not contain human hair. These fibers are usually very fine, plastic fibers that are manufactured to imitate real human hair.

LOOK & FEEL

Both real and synthetic extensions come in many styles, colors and different applications. The quality of synthetic fibers can vary, but they are generally stiff and move differently than human hair, so they don't match your natural hair as well. They sometimes feel stringy or coarse. When there is a gust of wind, synthetic hair will hang up, while your own hair will fly up. In addition, there are many hair qualities in which synthetic hair is mixed with real hair.

COLORS AND STYLE

Human hair extensions can be treated just like your own natural hair. You can straighten, curl, blow-dry, color and apply hair products. You cannot color synthetic hair because most dyes contain ammonia or bleach, which would destroy the synthetic hair. Additionally, you cannot style synthetic hair in the same way as your real hair because heat can damage the hair. Curling irons, straighteners and hair dryers are therefore not allowed, because they will melt or seriously damage the hair. Other factors such as sun, friction or harsh hair products can also damage synthetic hair extensions.

QUALITY

Synthetic hair is cheaper than real hair, but of course there is a compromise involved. Since they are made of synthetic fibers, they do not last as long as human hair as they can be easily damaged by the above factors (sun, heat, etc.).
