IMPLANTS
If you have lost a tooth or molar, an implant offers the solution. In fact, an implant is a titanium screw that serves as an artificial root. It is placed in place of the tooth root of the missing tooth or molar and provides a good basis for crowns, bridges and dentures.
If one tooth or molar is missing, an implant is placed after which a crown can be screwed on. This treatment can be performed without affecting the teeth or molars nearby.
An implant is also useful for a bridge, in which case you have several missing teeth and/or molars. It is quite possible that multiple implants will be placed as a basis for the bridge.
Click-on dentures are dentures (prostheses) that are clicked onto implants. Usually two or four implants are placed in the lower jaw.
For example, X-rays are used to examine the quality of the bone in which the implant is placed. The implant is placed under local anesthesia after the tooth root of the missing tooth has been removed. After the implant has been placed, it is protected with a cap for two to six months. That is the period in which the implant must grow into the jawbone.
After the implant has completely grown into the jawbone, the cap can be removed. The dentist can now place a crown, bridge or click denture on the applied implants.
