Uw tanden hebben wortels die bestaan uit zenuwen en bloedvaten. Het binnenste, levende deel van een tand of kies wordt de pulpa genoemd. Een wortelkanaalbehandeling, oftewel zenuwbehandeling, is nodig wanneer er een ontsteking is in de pulpa. De pulpa wordt in dat geval verwijderd en de wortelkanalen worden gevijld, gereinigd en opgevuld. Bovendien kan een wortelkanaalbehandeling van pas komen als extra steun bij een kroon of brug.<\/p>\n

In eerste instantie worden er r\u00f6ntgenfoto\u2019s gemaakt om te kunnen zien hoe de wortels lopen. Een wortelkanaalbehandeling zal bijna altijd uitgevoerd worden onder plaatselijke verdoving.<\/p>\n

Door middel van een rubberdam wordt de tand of kies afgedekt waardoor het gedurende de ingreep schoon blijft. Middels een klein gaatje kunnen de wortelkanalen bereikt worden. De wortelkanalen worden ruimer gevijld, gespoeld, gereinigd en gevuld. De tand of kies wordt dichtgemaakt met een definitieve vulling of kroon om te voorkomen dat er bacteri\u00ebn bij komen. Vanwege de duur van de behandeling wordt een wortelkanaalbehandeling vaak in twee afspraken uitgevoerd.<\/p>\n
