Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers are applied in at least two dental visits. Porcelain veneers are manufactured in the dental laboratory based on impressions of the desired tooth. A thin layer of enamel is ground off the tooth in question. Naturally, this layer is so negligibly thin that it has no negative consequences for your teeth or dental health. The porcelain facing is manufactured based on the tooth impression, desired shape and desired color. Thanks to the sanding off of the layer of enamel, the porcelain veneer will fit well on the tooth and it will feel very natural and comfortable.
WHY PORCELAIN FACING INSTEAD OF COMPOSITE?
The advantage of porcelain over composite is the low fragility of the material. Porcelain lasts longer due to the fact that it is less sensitive to tarnish than composite. Porcelain also often looks more natural and beautiful. On the other hand, it is more expensive than composite veneers.
Composite veneers can also be placed in one session and are therefore cheaper. After all, less tissue needs to be removed.
Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, remain aesthetically more beautiful in the longer term as they do not discolour. However, porcelain veneers are more expensive as 2 to 3 sittings are required for their installation.
